Mosquito Samples

West Nile Virus: 3*    St. Louis Encephalitis Virus: 2*    Western Equine Encephalitis Virus: 0

There was 1 new West Nile virus positive mosquito sample from Kings River in the Kingsburg area. There have been a total of 3 West Nile virus positives, 2 St. Louis encephalitis virus positives, and 0 West Nile virus and St. Louis encephalitis virus positive mosquito samples out of 2,158 samples tested so far in 2024. The positive sample was collected from north Visalia.

*Includes 0 mosquito samples with WNV/SLEV co-infection.

A sample may contain up to 50 individual mosquitoes.

Dead Birds

There were 0 new WNV positive dead birds this week. A total of 10 dead birds have been tested so far in 2024. None of the birds have tested positive.

Report dead birds to the WNV call center at 1-877-968-2473, online at westnile.ca.gov, or directly to the District at 559-732-8606. Dead birds may be testable for WNV, SLEV, and WEEV. 

Human Cases

There were 0 new human WNV case reported last week. There have been 0 human WNV or SLEV cases reported to the District so far in 2024.

The Tulare County Public Health Department reports human cases to the District.
