The name change helps residents more easily identify district services and find accurate mosquito control, surveillance, and bite prevention information.
VISALIA, CA – Dr. Mustapha Debboun, General Manager of Delta Vector Control District, would like to inform the public that the District has officially changed its name to Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District. The name change was prompted by widespread confusion about the word “vector”.
According to the California Department of Public Health, the scientific term “vector” refers to any insect or animal, including mosquitoes, that is capable of causing human discomfort and injury. However, the majority of the public do not know this. Residents experiencing mosquito problems often search for the word mosquitoes or mosquito control when looking for help online or in phone directories. Delta Vector Control District does not appear in these results because the name only uses the scientific term “vector”.
“The name change to Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District will help residents find the District and better understand its primary services and responsibilities.“ said Dr. Mustapha Debboun. The name change will come with an updated logo, designed by former biologist, Jesse Erandio.
Residents will see some changes immediately. The website, www.deltamvcd.org, has already transitioned to the new logo and name. Other changes will take a bit longer. The Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District will continue to use the remaining stock of outreach materials and other items that have the old name and logo. Work vehicles will also have the old logo and name as vector control technicians use them during the work day.
