Pablo Ortega

Biologist

Pablo started working for the Delta Mosquito and Vector Control District in 2022. As a Laboratory Technician, Pablo assisted the District’s Mosquito Surveillance Program by setting and retrieving mosquito traps, identifying mosquito species in daily catches, and repairing traps when needed. He was promoted to Biologist in July 2023. As a Biologist, he is primarily responsible for the insectary and insecticide resistance monitoring program as well as assists in all laboratory activities including vector surveillance, vector-borne pathogen surveillance, and the fish hatchery. Prior to working at the District, Pablo worked in the agriculture industry in the fields of plant breeding and research, crop production and management, and poultry farming operations.

He holds a B.S. in Biotechnology Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. Pablo is certified by the California Department of Public Health as a Vector Control Technician in Categories A through D.

When not working, Pablo enjoys doing CrossFit and cooking.
